DIY Birdseed Eggs

Because it’s not nice to forget about our little buddies outside, our resident DIYer has come up with this fabulous little treat for our fellow feathered friends. Hung from the branches outside your home, these DIY birdseed eggs gently sparkle in the sun and are guaranteed to attract the prettiest of spring birds to your yard. They’re so simple to throw together, your kids could easily lend a helping hand.

Materials

8 cups safflower seeds
1/3 cup unflavored gelatin
1 1/2 cups water
Plastic Easter eggs
Hot glue gun & glue sticks
Scissors
Gold & silver glittery ribbon
Gold & silver color spray

directions step-1 In a large pan, heat up the gelatin and water on low heat until the mixture turns clear.

step-2 Stir in the safflower seeds until thoroughly mixed. Remove from heat.

step-3 Pack seed mixture into Easter egg molds. Place molds in refrigerator for 2 hours.

step-4 Remove from fridge and remove birdseed eggs from molds. Place eggs on paper towel in the sink (so you can wash off any excess spray). Spray with gold and silver food coloring. Let dry 2 hours on paper towels.

step-5 Cut gold & silver ribbon into 15″ lengths. Place a dab of hot glue on the top & bottom of the egg and wrap the ribbon around. Hot glue the ribbon back to itself to make a hanging loop.

step-6 Hang on trees outside your windows and start bird watching!
